Joy From the World
Quote of the day, courtesy of Louis Armstrong: “Music is life itself.”
About these notes: Always Monday. Always short. Always free. Always about fighting to preserve democracy. At times, interesting.
What a year! As we head into the holidays, we look forward to a respite from dismal politics, turning to joyful time with family and friends. To that end, today’s note offers uplifting carols — with ever-so-slightly revised lyrics. Print copies and convene your own sing-along at an upcoming gathering. Or share this email with friends looking for fun ways to get into the holiday spirit.
Here’s what follows: Five carols, one more paragraph from me, and a last ‘official’ carol. For those so inclined, there’s a bonus carol at the very bottom. Indeed, it’s a most wonderful time of the year!
During this holiday season, I’m setting aside time to ponder a few questions. Are most Americans good? How can so many who profess to follow the teachings of Jesus vote for 45/47? Will anything spur our nation to enact sensible gun laws? What happened to the Kansas City Chiefs? Should I keep writing these weekly notes? Above all, I often ask, “How can I retain optimism and hope?” And my answer is . . . you, my friends on this list who fight so hard for our democracy and a better future. So, thank you, thank you, thank you for what you give to the world — each and every day!
Wishing you the very best holiday season!
Nervously, but joyfully,
Ted
This bonus track was too long to fit onto one graphic. Apologies for the mismatched font size:

Have you tried creating lyrics to Thule Ravenscroft's version of The Grinch?

I would love to sing it.
Thanks for bringing a smile to my face in these dark times. You are very clever!
